Valentin St. Cyr Mysteries

One of my co-workers has been reading the Valentin St. Cyr mysteries by David Fulmer.  The first novel is Chasing the Devil’s Tail, followed by Jass, and finally Rampart Street.  This series takes place in New Orleans in the early 1900’s.  I have been told this is  a great historical fiction series to read.  The reader gets a sense for how the turn of the century effected people, and especially how the automobile changed life as people once knew it.   Fulmer’s character also gives the reader a  very real feel.  St. Cyr is not a super detective, but a person like any other who has flaws that he must work with, or around in order to solve the mystery.  All and all a good read.  (Not to mention, my co-worker said that Fulmer was very pleasant to talk to at the Tucson Festival of Books.)
