Haunted Mesa

If you looking for a book set in Arizona, check out Louis L’Amour’s Haunted Mesa.  This book takes place near Douglas, Arizona.  Mike Raglan sets out to find his friend Erik, who has mysteriously disappeared into a parallel universe.  The more that Mike looks into the disappearance, the more he feels that this is related to the disappearance of the Anasazi people.  While on his great adventure, Mike encounters several friends and a few who are only looking to help themselves.  This story is full of Native American folklore and the supernatural.  The folklore was truly the best part of the book.  It was fascinating to hear about all of the mysterious disappearances, especially the entire population of the Anasazi people. It was also refreshing to read western/cowboy dialogue that sounded natural and not contrived; L’Amour definitely nailed his character interactions.  This was a nice change of pace from L’Amour’s traditional western tale.
