Louise Erdrich   Tracks

If you like stories by Native Americans, this will be your meat.  It is a running commentary by the tribal leader of the Chippewa in North Dakota and an angry daughter of the tribe throughout a ten year span.  Fleur is a crucial character between the two.  Nanapush, the tribal leader, is a man with history and ongoing life, all too human.  This is not a quick read, definitely a character study.  Even though I have problems relating to life of the Chippewa it was compelling.  The author has written other books with some of the same characters, but this was a good starting place; and she definitely knows her subject.  We are drawn in emotionally by her writing.

Thanks Nancy!
